In a move towards enhanced safety, the Formula 4 United States Championship has embraced the halo, the curved bar safety device that has been a part of Formula 1 since 2018 as one of the improvements of their new car for 2024.

The Ligier JS F422, the new car, was announced to be coming to the series for 2024 back in May 2022 and was unveiled to the world on Friday afternoon.

The car was unveiled ahead of this weekend’s F4 US races at Road America in Plymouth, Wisconsin. Representatives from Ligier Automotive, the developer of the new chassis, were present at the ceremony.

The chassis will replace the Ligier JS F4, which was introduced in 2016.

On top of providing the chassis for the series, Ligier engines will be introduced to the series for the first time with the unveiling of the Storm V4. This marks a shift from the series’ long-time engine supplier Honda.

The car will also feature other safety enhancements, including reinforced protection at various points of the car.

In a press release by the series, Tony Parella, the CEO of the company that holds the rights to F4 US, said he was “thrilled” to show the JS F422 to the world.

“This new chassis has been a long time in the making, and I know our friends at Ligier Automotive have put countless days, weeks and months into the development of it,” Parella said. “It’s truly the latest and greatest, meeting all of the specifications from the FIA.”
