Hello readers,

In my two years running USOpenWheelNation, I have personally had the honor of telling stories of plenty of drivers from over a dozen nationalities, alongside highlighting stories of drivers from a vast variety of backgrounds in the United States.

Despite my individual efforts, racing remains a sport which, like many financially exclusive activities, suffers from a severe lack of diversity and employment opportunities and pathways for those who are of underrepresented backgrounds: particularly women, people of color, and those in the LGBTQ+ community.

USOpenWheelNation’s resources and platform will always be available and dedicated toward advancing the goals and visibility of those who seek to make racing a more welcoming industry, and dedicated areas of coverage will go toward promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in motorsport.

Attached are a group of organizations that support creating a motorsport community which is belonging for everyone. Please consider supporting and getting involved with these groups.

From Racing Pride‘s website: “Racing Pride’s vision is to positively promote LGBTQ+ inclusivity through the platform of motorsport. This involves highlighting the achievements and experiences of LGBTQ+ people involved in all aspects of motorsport, encouraging increased participation, and providing opportunities for those within the motorsport industry and fans of the sport to become visible allies for the LGBTQ+ community. Motorsport has a huge reach and by galvanising the sport to promote inclusivity, Racing Pride can inspire positive attitudes towards the LGBTQ+ community in society more broadly.”

From Urban Youth Racing School‘s website: “URBAN YOUTH was born out of the highly successful Urban Youth Racing School, established in Philadelphia in 1998 by Anthony Martin. With a 26-year track record of success behind us, as well as national recognition, we look forward to reversing the plight of urban youth in this country by creating opportunities, igniting careers and transforming lives while uplifting our community. With plans to expand in the coming years and incentive programs like the Urban Youth Chevy Points Championship, we see an exciting road ahead. Moving forward, Urban Youth will begin using augmented and virtual reality as an extension to our curriculums to provide students and teachers around the globe with a new interactive way to learn.”

From Women in Motorsports North America‘s website: “Women in Motorsports North America is a community of professional women and men devoted to supporting opportunities for women across all disciplines of motorsport by creating an inclusive, resourceful environment to foster mentorship, advocacy, education, and growth, thereby ensuring the continued strength and successful future of our sport.”

From Building Speed‘s website: Our vision is to revolutionize the motorsports industry by empowering aspiring female college students with the resources, representation, and opportunities they need to succeed. We strive to build a diverse and inclusive community where women not only enter the field but thrive as leaders, innovators, and mentors. Through Building Speed, we envision a future where the contributions of female leaders are celebrated and integral to the motorsports world.
