Callum Hedge has been a wrecking ball in the Formula Regional Americas Championship in 2023. This weekend, he could hit win #10 on the season.
Hedge, a 21-year old from Auckland, is currently leading both the Porsche Carrera Cup Pro division in Australia and FR Americas, will miss out on action across the pond to defend his 55 point week. Hedge has finished on the podium in 11 consecutive races and has 266 points on the season.
Hedge can all but secure the championship by sweeping the weekend at VIR, a task he achieved at both Mid-Ohio and Road America.
Two of Hedge’s plentiful Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport teammates, Ryan Shehan and Cooper Becklin, continued their consistency on the season.
Despite Shehan having a season-worst finish of fourth and sixth, he remains within striking distance of his Kiwi Counterpart as he trails by 55 points. Thursday testing has looked very favorable to Shehan, who secured his first F4 podium at VIR.
Becklin has, in an incredible showing of consistency, finished in third place in each of the last nine races. He has 168 points this season.
Here’s some other storylines for FR Americas this weekend:
- Oliver Westling secured the first win of the season for a non-Crosslink Kiwi driver when his Jensen. machine came across the line in first this season. Westling also finished second in the final race.
- Max Hewitt had his two best finishes of the season at NJMP, fourth and fifth.
- Everett Stack will be making his FR Americas debut in the #1 car for Jensen.
Virginia International Raceway will prevent many challenges for drivers, but ones that they have pointed out to us that are the most pressing are the course’s narrow sections and fast sweeping corners.
