Callum Hedge qualified on pole to begin the Formula Regional Americas round at Virginia International Raceway, and as he has done nine times previously this season, won the race.
The 19-year old New Zealander Hedge, secured win #10 of the season on Saturday morning, has joined the company of Raoul Hyman (11 wins, 2022), Linus Lundqvist (16 wins, 2020), and Kyle Kirkwood (16 wins, 2018) as drivers who have won 10+ races in a season.
Hedge was joined on the front row by teammate and 18-year old Texan Ryan Shehan. Shehan started the race 55 points behind and was fighting to prevent Hedge from being able to clinch the title this weekend.
Shehan fought hard into Turn 1 as Hedge stuck his car on the inside to hold him off. While battling for third place on the opening lap, Hayden Bowlsbey collided into the back of Oliver Westling, causing a spin in an incident which is still under investigation at this time.
Drivers would have difficulties in Turn 11 throughout the course of the race. Max Hewitt would be the first to run off the course as he would drop from fourth through the field, eventually retiring from the race.
Hedge would also be victim to Turn 11 when he would run off midway through the race, propelling Shehan to the lead. In an unrelated incident which saw Kevin Janzen lose his front wing, the full course caution would come out and the field would bunch up.
On the next restart, Hedge would get the lead back and would take victory. Shehan would finish second and Bowlsbey would finish third for his first podium in Formula Regional Americas.
