Skip Barber Race Series champion Sebastian Wheldon has arrived at the USF Pro Championships and, on Wednesday afternoon at Sebring International Raceway, he arrived with a bang.
Wheldon powered his way to pole position ahead of the first of six races of the 2024 Yacademy Winter Series.
Driving for VRD Racing, Wheldon, who was announced to drive for the team yesterday finished ahead of three-time USF Juniors race winner and Exclusive Autosport driver Jack Jeffers. Wheldon finished unofficially with a 1:06.207, just over two tenths faster than Jeffers. Jay Howard Driver Development’s G3 Argyros finished in third place with a 1:06.619.
Wheldon and Jeffers fought near the top of the timesheets throughout the first two practice sessions. Jeffers finished first in the opening session this morning with a 1:06.448, less than a tenth ahead of Wheldon. Argyros was fastest in the second practice session when was three-tenths faster than Wheldon. Argyros’ best time was a 1:06.446. Jeffers finished in fourth behind Exclusive Autosport teammate Joao Vergara who had a 1:06.546.
The first race of the Yacademy Winter Series will be tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. eastern time. The second and third races are at 12:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m..
