In a race that saw three full-course yellow flags and a red flag, TJ Speed Motorsports’ Hunter Yeany picked up his first USF Pro 2000 win on Saturday at Louisiana’s NOLA Motorsports Park.

The first incident was on lap 3 when Turn 3 Motorsport’s Ethan Ho tapped the wall on the exit of the final corner and had to retire after sliding across the course. His teammate and points leader entering the race Lochie Hughes had a mechanical issue that stopped him on the course on lap 10.

The incident for Hughes allowed for VRD Racing’s Nikita Johnson, who made a great move off of a restart following the Hughes incident on Pabst Racing’s Jace Denmark to take second and the championship lead. Johnson entered the weekend trailing Hughes by eight points and now leads him by 18.

The third incident was a crash on lap 14 in turn 4 that ended the day of TJ Speed Motorsports’ David Morales, DEForce Racing’s Nicolas Monteiro and Turn 3 Motorsport’s Adam Fitzgerald, who all collided.

Winning the first race of the weekend on Saturday at NOLA Motorsports Park, Yeany was able to push himself up the standings after finishing the first weekend on the Streets of St. Petersburg sitting in ninth to fourth after today’s result.

Following him and Johnson on the podium was Denmark. Turn 3 Motorsport’s Danny Dyszelski finished in fourth and fifth place was taken by 2022 USF Juniors champion and DEForce Racing driver Mac Clark. BN Racing’s Nicolas Baptiste finished sixth, capping off the six teams that finished in the top-six spots.
