VRD Racing’s Max Taylor took the USF Juniors title after finishing second place at Portland International Raceway on Friday evening.

Taylor made a pass in the first half of the race to overtake championship rival Liam McNeilly to take not only the race lead but give himself the points buffer to secure VRD Racing’s first-ever drivers championship in USF Juniors. McNeilly would get him back on lap 11, but Taylor had enough of a gap to secure the title ahead of the final race after holding off teammate Sebastian Wheldon for second.

The 16-year-old did double-duty throughout the season in USF Juniors and USF2000 and entered the Portland weekend third in the USF2000 standings as well. Taking the win gave Taylor the points he needed to secure the title with one race remaining in the season.

Taylor won the title in his second USF Juniors season after finishing sixth with a win at Road America last year. This season, his road to the title has been defined by unmatched consistency, having not finished lower than eighth in any race this season.
