Across eight total testing and practice sessions throughout the day, nearly 40 open-wheel cars from various generations took to the world-famous Watkins Glen International to prepare for the upcoming race weekend.

The conditions also presented a challenge to the drivers, speaking to the difficult nature that was presented by the rising track temperatures throughout the day that altered grip levels across the circuit.

The race weekend will feature five races in total, with the qualifying sessions for F1600, F2000, and Formula Atlantic all taking place Saturday morning followed by an afternoon feature race. F1600 will have two additional races on Sunday with one additional race as well for F2000 and Formula Atlantic.

Select races will be broadcasted as well on the SpeedTour TV YouTube channel throughout the weekend.

Wesley Gundler continued his recent form of early-weekend dominance for K-Hill Motorsports by taking the top spot in both practice sessions for the second round in a row after doing the same at Road America.

Gundler is looking to hang with the championship battle, trailing by 31 points with nine races remaining. One of the two drivers he is chasing ahead of him is Gabriel Cahan, who finished second behind Gundler in both sessions. Gabriel Cahan enters the weekend trailing his brother Ayrton Cahan, who finished in the top ten in both sessions, by eight points.

David Adorno, the points leader in the F1600 Masters class, was the quickest master’s driver in the opening session and landed his #33 car just over three tenths behind John Dole in the second session. Adorno enters with a 10-point lead in F1600 Masters over David Livingston.

In one of the largest fields in F2000 competition to date, championship competitors Robert Wright and Carter Sheets both found themselves in the top five of both Friday practice sessions with Sheets, trailing Wright by three points, going fastest in the opening practice.

Jonathan Farmer took the quickest spot in the second practice with a 1:53.978 that served as the quickest F2000 time of the day. Joe Colasacco, a regular in the F1600 Masters class, also ran well in his second F2000 appearance of the season to take second quickest.

Across the three Atlantic classes, all championship leaders found themselves near the top of the timesheets across Friday.

Atlantic-016 championship leader John McAleer can clinch the 2025 class championship by outscoring Richard Zober by 31 or more points throughout the course of the weekend. McAleer ran second quickest in both sessions to K-Hill’s Matthew Bunson, who won the class title in 2024 and is making his first start of the season.

In the Atlantic-Open class, Brandon Schwarz has a much less likely chance to clinch the title this weekend but does carry a 152-point lead over Paulie Gatto. The two ran first and third in both practice sessions respectively, separated by Charles Livingston in the middle.

Justin di Lucia was quickest in the Atlantic JRs class, with an overall quickest time of 1:51.091.
