On the final day of competition of the 2025 season, the Formula Race Promotions (FRP) championship battles were decided once and for all, headlined by a F1600 title fight which came down to a record-setting margin in the points.

Ayrton Cahan took the championship by just one point over his brother Gabriel Cahan, breaking the record for the smallest points gap between first and second place in F1600 history. Wesley Gundler finished one point behind both of them. David Adorno ended up claiming the F1600 Masters title.

Additionally, John McAleer took his first Atlantic-016 title after finishing runner-up in the standings in 2024. Carter Sheets ended up securing two podiums in the F2000 class to grab his first class title in his sophomore season.

Race 2 Recap:

Wesley Gundler made it two-in-a-row to keep his outside shot at the F1600 championship alive into the final race, becoming the third driver in FRP F1600 to win back-to-back races in 2025.

Gundler was able to build out a gap to the four cars behind after the top five jousted for position throughout the race, going into turn 1 sometimes at three-wide.

It was Gundler’s fourth win of 2025. The race also allowed Ayrton Cahan to gain points on his brother Gabriel Cahan at the top of the championship standings, with Ayrton Cahan finishing third to Gabriel Cahan’s fourth, setting up a final race where the two sat two points apart. Chace Supplee also grabbed his third consecutive podium, his best streak of 2025.

David Adorno, finishing sixth overall, picked up the F1600 Masters class win and with it enough points to mathematically clinch the F1600 Masters class title. It is Adorno’s first F1600 Masters championship.

“It was an awesome race,” said Adorno. “The start was amazing with (John) Thompson on my inside, going two wide through one, and it was a battle. Nobody wanted to let up.”

Race 3 Recap:

It couldn’t have come down to a closer margin for the FRP F1600 championship as Ayrton Cahan beat his brother Gabriel Cahan over the line by less than five hundredths of a second to win the title by a series-record one-point margin.

Wesley Gundler took the race win, becoming the first driver to sweep a three-race weekend of FRP F1600 in 2025. Between himself and Ayrton Cahan, who finished third overall, was Chace Supplee, who grabbed back-to-back runner-up finishes.

“I got out front and just started clicking laps,” said Gundler. “This year is the most fun that I have ever had racing.”

The two-by-two pack crossing the finish line behind Gundler was Supplee, Ayrton Cahan, Gabriel Cahan, and then Cooper Travis, who grabbed the remaining top-five positions. David Adorno took the class win in F1600 Masters as well, cementing his 2025 class title run.

Palacio finished ahead of Robert Wright, who matched his best finish of 2025, with Carter Sheets sitting behind the two within striking distance of clinching the driver’s championship in the next race.

Dave Weitzenhof finished one spot off the podium in fourth place. It was Weitzenhof’s joint-best finish of the year as well, matching his other fourth in the season opener at Road America

Race 2 Recap:

Carter Sheets added his name to the list of Formula Race Promotions F2000 champions as his second-place finish was good enough to clinch the 2025 drivers title.

Sheets won three races in 2025 and built on a third-place finish last season in his rookie campaign to take his first title in F2000 at the age of 16.

“I’ve definitely learned a lot from everyone here in the F2000 category,” said Sheets. “Bob (Wright) was breathing down my neck the entire time, and I made sure he was still in my mirrors and not by my side by the end of the race.”

Also during the race, Nick Palacio became the first Formula Race Promotions F2000 driver to win five or more races in a single season since 2022 champion JC Trahan as he took the checkered flag by a commanding 25-second margin and grabbed third place in the championship with it.

Behind Sheets was Robert Wright, who secured his place as runner-up in the championship for 2025. Arshia Akhtar also grabbed her second consecutive top-five finish.
